FRESH - the Emerging Artists

Six artists have been chosen Fresh - the Emerging Artist Stand for 2005.

The selection committee comprised: Anne Ryan, Assistant Curator of Australian Prints, Drawings & Watercolours, Art Gallery of New South Wales (Chair); Libby Knott, Manager, Australian Galleries Sydney; and Marianne Hulsbosch, Course Director, Visual Art Education (Secondary), Faculty of Education and Social Work, University of Sydney.

The selected artists are:

Chris McCaughey, National Art School, New South Wales.

Jennie Nayton, Curtin University of Technology, Western Australia.

Print Council of Australia $1000 Encouragement Award

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Sydney Art on Paper Fair, the Print Council of Australia will donate a special Encouragement Award of $1,000 to be judged by Anne Ryan, Curator Australian Prints Art Gallery NSW & Hedwig Fijen, Director Manifesta. The artists selected for the “FRESH”emerging artists’ exhibition, will be eligible for the Award. The aim of the award is to assist an emerging artist in the development of their art on paper practice.

The Print Council of Australia is a national, not for profit, visual arts organisation, which promotes all forms of contemporary works on paper. In its advocacy role, the Print Council aims to widen the audience for works of art on paper. The organisation works to develop further opportunities for both emerging and established artists, and publishes IMPRINT magazine.

The Print Council is pleased to be associated with the Sydney Art on Paper Fair’s FRESH exhibition initiative, and its encouragement of emerging artists and their work in the context of an international art fair.
