| Background
First held in 1989, the International Works on Paper Fair (IWOPF) has grown over the last ten years to become the premier biennial artfair in the Pacific Region, with a focus on promoting artworks on paper. The IWOPF is self-funding with support derived from government grants, individual philanthropy and corporate sponsorship. The Fair is administered by a volunteer committee made up of arts and business professionals. The Fair's Executive Director is prominent Sydney art dealer, art historian and curator, Ms Akky van Ogtrop. The Fair features a strong representation of international and local, galleries and dealers that aim to provide something for everyone, whether it is an Australian landscape watercolour or an Andy Warhol screenprint. The IWOPF is a unique fair, as works are displayed and sold in conjunction with an informative demonstration program and emerging artist's exhibition. What is an art fair? Art Fairs are a world- wide venue for the promotion and sale of art. They provide art collectors, dealers, educators and the general public with the opportunity to showcase the visual arts under one roof. This informal environment provides the opportunity for people to pursue their interest without feeling intimidated by a commercial gallery setting. Art fairs also provide the opportunity to promote the works of leading Australian artists to an international audience in that it provides local galleries, dealers and artists with a networking opportunity to promote their work to international exhibitors. |
