A pair of human eyes, the bags underneath stretched and bulging undera load which seems dangerously close to tearing away from the face altogether.A strange, teenage image yet one which could in certain cases describe thetiring onslaught of conceptual associations which flood the mind when imagesare received by the eye. Many visual elements are now so over-codified thatthey are paradoxically emptied of meaning. Take for instance the colourred. From whichever angle one views it, it is a code which cannot be crackedso easily, being a signifier for danger, love and good fortune, amongstcountless other associations. However, rather than dread this implosionof meaning in imagery, those not blind could find a certain degree of freedomin the untethering of images to predetermined meanings.

Jen Cabraja is completing her final year the Bachelor of Visual ArtsDegree at Sydney College of the Arts.
