Kate Bliss, Untitled, Screenprint | Kate Bliss Journeys have been the basis of much of the history of our planet, andhave subsequently increased our knowledge of the world. They have formedthe basis of much of our mythology, legend and ultimately ritual, and throughthese means they have consolidated human history. Art has been used to illustratethis history and has left an enduring record of the endeavours of many ofthe ancient people and their efforts to seek knowledge. There appears toexist a persistent and deep interrelationship between the themes of intellectual, theoretical and spiritual effort and those of travelling, exploration andsight-seeing. The very language of intellectual effort constantly refersus to the road. The concept of time is obviously crucial, as all journeystake time. Time is the context for happenings or events, and time representsthe past, present, and future, which, in a sense, parallels the beginning, middle and end of a journey.
